A Hindu Religious Festival – Janmashtami / Krishna – The Birthday Of Lord Krishna

Krishna Janmashtami also known as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti or sometimes simply as Janmashtami, is an annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.

Janmashtami, the birthday of Hindu god Lord Krishna is celebrated with great joy all over the country. It’s so beautiful to see small school kids in the costumes of Krishna, Radha and Gopies. They perform various mischievous acts of Krishna’s childhood where he as a Balgopal used to steal cream and dahi. The homes and temples are decorated with rangolies, lights and flowers to celebrate Krishna’s birthday at mid night. Mathura,the birthplace of Lord Krishna and the surrounding area of Dwarka and Vrindawan are known for celebrating this festival with great energy and devotion.

“Sri Krishna was born in a prison in the custody of Kansa. Vasudev, His father immediately thought of his friend Nand and decided to hand over his child to him to save Krishna from the clutch of Kansa. Krishna grew up in Gokul and finally killed his uncle, King Kansa.”
