Curfew was re-imposed on certain parts of Kashmir today. This encompasses five police station areas of the Srinagar – Khanyar, Rainawari, Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal and Nowhatta. Restrictions have been imposed on assembly of 4 or more persons under the jurisdiction of Kralkhud and Maisuma police stations.This is done to foil a separatist march to the Kulgam district. This move is done regardless of the fact that mobile services were restored in valley. Mobile services were snapped ever since 15th July.  Kashmir has been facing disturbances and violence since 8th July.

Curfew has been lifted from all areas except Anantnag town.  Anantnag was hit by fresh protests. A 61-year-old man died in a road accident during course of clashes. 14 people were injured during action by security forces in the valley and 47 people have been killed so far. It all began with the killing of Burhan Wani, Hizbul Mujahideen commander on 8th July.

The whole of Kulgam district and Anantnag town are under curfew as a preventive measure so as to maintain conditions of law and order. Normal life has been hit in a big way. Schools, colleges and business establishments were kept closed which has been a major cause of distress for the people of Kashmir.
